AU History: Rin and Len Kagamine are androids created near the height of humanity's arrogance. As they were experimenting with creating life in their own image, a company called Crypton built a series of "Vocaloid", who were human shaped and minded, but fashioned of steel and given the abilities of pokemon. However, their claim to fame was their synthetic singing voices and ability to dance and perform. Their services were offered for a price to the public, who could use them for their own art and song. Vocaloid was extremely popular in their country of origin, and even gaining popularity in other countries the world over, for seven years before the Pokemon's world shattering revolution. Rin and Len had a rocky reception at first due to some imperfections in their original voice bank, but after an update they became much more popular.

When things started to go south, Rin and Len were eventually transported to Union, but were "killed" during the siege, and eventually lost, becoming part of the ruins of the old city. For hundreds of years they were left forgotten and slowly decaying, until finally they were excavated and restored. Unfortunately, huge sections of their memory files had become corrupt from the damage. Their personalities and relationship to each other were in tact, as were their language, songs and other primary functions, as well as some customs. Unfortunately, they currently have no other memory of what the world was like before.

Canon Personality:
An energetic and audacious girl, to contrast a more sensible counterpart in Len. Her greatest loves in life include oranges, Len, and crushing her enemies (and sometimes minor annoyances) beneath the wheel of her road roller. She's also very competitive, regularly showing feelings of rivalry toward her predecessor, Hatsune Miku. Her biggest flaws are being proud and selfish - given the chance, she'll act to obtain her own desires without much regard to others, and she can be bossy too.

Being that the Kagamines were 'raised' by the internet, their interests tend to be wide and based on pop culture. They have many songs that reference video games or games in general, such as Remote Controller and Death Should Not Have Taken Thee! - Rin is especially fond of games as she is a playful sort of person that is easily bored. In addition to the road roller, she seems to be a vehicle enthusiast in general, shown riding a motorcycle in Virus Resistance and driving a car in Summer Idol - all this despite being 14 and unlicensed, but she doesn't let that stop her. As you might expect from a kid, Rin loves snack foods, especially sweets. In songs from the Kagamines' point of view, they often demand snacks in exchange for singing. Both of the Kagamines are crazy about holidays, especially Halloween - ever since Trick and Treat, no other Vocaloid can compete with the amount of Halloween songs they have, as it seems to be almost tradition. (That isn't even close to all of them.)

Rin can be very brave in a mischievous child sense, often wanting to stick her nose where it doesn't belong, mess around with people, and be adventurous. However, her instinct when things get serious is to rely on Len or an adult in her life to smooth it over. Her belief is that kids like herself can get away with anything. She's not hopeless though - if the whole family is fighting, she'll take it upon herself to fix the problem. But afterwards, she might boast about how sweet she is and how lost they'd be without her and etc.

She can be very jealous and insecure - a lot of her hyper-competitiveness is about this, but it's also in other ways. Oftentimes she would fish for compliments and get very angry if they weren't given. Although she tends to be pretty unladylike, and she milks her childish looks for all she's got, deep down she sometimes wishes she were older - Really, she'd prefer to have her cake and eat it too, as shown in I can take off my panties! But she nevertheless frets about being seen as pretty, tends to compare herself to Luka and Miku, and is sometimes prone to "A-Cup Angst" where the former and Meiko are concerned.

Once conceptualized as two sides of a mirror, Rin and Len are not officially twins, but they have come to refer to themselves as such. Their connection is much deeper than that of siblings though, and word of God is they share "one soul between the two of them." They are often portrayed as lovers instead of siblings, or any number of variations. The Kagamines don't mind whatever role, as long as they get to be together - the chance of Rin and Len making an appearance together in a work and not being somehow related would be extremely slim, basically unheard of (at least, I can't think of anything off the top of my head.)

It goes without saying that Rin and Len are very close, but this is also literal. With him she has a very physical relationship, holding hands, sharing a bed, chasing him with the roadroller... My point is, although she keeps her socially-acceptable modest distance with most acquaintances, her bond with Len influences the rest of her relationships, and one could surmise their relationship status with her by how physical she is with them. Of course, it's not something most people could fathom, as she works in tsundere strange ways. For example, roadroller violence would not necessarily be a bad spot to be in. Unless you've got some kind of problem with being flattened to death, I guess.


AU Deviation: Since the current back story actually makes it so that their upbringing was more or less the same, the key differences would come from growing up in the Pokemon universe and from having memory loss. Since Rin doesn't remember much about the world before, she won't know to care about being popular, so she'll probably be more inclined to be rude and bratty than keeping up public appearances. She'll most likely find something else to apply her competitive streak to.

Canon Abilities: Singing, dancing, and acting, as well as playing multiple musical instruments.

Enlightened Abilities: Steel/Electric Typing, Master of Trading.

Rin's abilities will mostly be in the sense of her enhanced durability from her steel typing, in addition any hand-to-hand style attacks made by Rin can be considered steel type as well. Her own electricity can be utilized to give small shocks, and she can use other forms of electricity as an energy source. She can also use sound based moves - particularly normal-type moves that involve the use of a voice, such as sing, but she may hit a sour note and come out with screech or even metal sound instead.

As she is a robot, her "enlightened abilities" are already built in, so rather than evolving, I'd prefer her to stay more or less the same, with the only possible difference being the default abilities become stronger and learning even more sound moves. Something akin to a Hyper Voice probably wouldn't come until later, for example.

-What do you look for in the Pokémon with whom you bond?

I don't really care about strength and stuff like that.... If it's cute then I'll probably want it. But I also want my Pokemon to match with Len's! We're heading straight out to find Plusle and Minun after this! ♪

-You are alone and bereft of your Pokémon allies, upon what strengths do you rely on to see yourself safely home?

Pffft, that would never happen. I'm always with Len no matter what. And besides, can't I just warp more pokemon to me or something? There's no such thing as a low signal! We'll just boost it with our electricity! ♪

-You plunge into the depths of the Old City. What is it that you seek from the past? Treasure, technology, wisdom?

Actually, I'd really like to see if there are any more Vocaloids down there. But I don't want to go back to that place... you do it. ♪

-What do you do to ensure we never again awaken the wrath of the gods upon humanity?

Eeeh, how does this even apply to me, it's not like I'M human. Besides, you said as long as I didn't capture any pokemon, they'll be fine right? So it's no big deal. While we're talking about it though, get this - some middle aged baldy said he thought I was a sign of humanity's arrogance and downfall. Can you believe it?! So I said, "I only see YOU headed for a downfall!" And I kicked him in the nuts! Hahahahaha!

.... What? Anyone would react that way, ok! So if someone shows up, you have to cover for me. Got it? ♪

-What strengths make you most qualified for your role within Union?

Doesn't matter where I am... I'm gonna continue my "role" as usual, which is entertaining with my beautiful singing voice! And combined with my other talents, what more do I need? ♪

-No Enlightened chooses their abilities - and not all are Enlightened. What type abilities would you most desire to manifest and why?

Huh, you mean if I got to have a third type or something? Then, how about flying? It can't be that hard to attach a jetpack. I'm a realist, you know... ♪
